About Our Tours

Would you like to see where your milk comes from?  Have you ever been on a real dairy farm?  Do you know how cows are milked?  Do you like to see cows and their baby calves?  Would you like to learn how cheese is made?  Want to learn more about a dairy farm operation?

If the answer to any of these questions is "Yes", you'll want to visit Harvest Moon Farm & Dairy.  A tour of a fully operational dairy farm is very informative and interesting to everyone from school kids to senior adults.  Many people have never visited a dairy farm and have no idea how a farm operates, how cars are treated, milked, etc.

We normally demonstrate milking a cow for the kids, so they get the connection of  where milk comes from.  We also grind some corn and wheat in our flour mill so they understand how flour is made and explain how flour is used to make different foods.

Here are a few of the topics that may be covered on our farm tours:
  • The life of a cow & farm life
  • How cows are treated and handled
  • Genetics/selective breeding/cloning
  • How crops are stored
  • Why farmers use chemicals
  • Soil and water management
  • Crop rotations
  • Best Management Practices
  • Nutrition
  • Feeds that cows consume
  • Crop Production
  • Milk Quality
  • How dairies are permitted and inspected
  • How milk is measured and sampled
  • Pasteurization
  • Homogenized milk

We can custom develop tours for teachers or groups to cover the topics they want.  We just love farming and can talk about it all day.

Weather is seldom an issue for our tours since they can be conducted inside our barn.  We have a meeting/classroom designed just for tours.  All of our cows, livestock housing and milking system are under one roof.

You'll want to wear comfortable clothing and shoes.  Find out all the things you want to know about a dairy farm, see how our cheese is made, make some home-made ice cream and grind corn to make flour.  See the momma cows and baby calves.  Learn how farmers grow the food you eat!

Lots of fun and a day on the farm you'll never forget!!
